A condenser microphone favored by producers like KC Porter and bands like Imagine Dragons, the Blue Bottle utilizes discrete Class-A circuitry, an EF86 vacuum tube, a hand-wound transformer, and an interchangeable capsule system to give you a tone suitable for studio recordings. This system makes use of a bayonet-mounted design to easily swap out different diaphragms (called Bottle Caps); with all the separately available Bottle Caps at your disposal, this one microphone can take on a panoply of polar patterns and sonic characteristics, lending itself to versatile applications throughout your studio.
Included with this Blue Bottle is their cardioid B6 Cap, which sports a large-diaphragm, gold-sputtered film capsule. Though it can be used on plenty of instruments—acoustic guitar and piano come to mind—it is particularly geared toward vocals, with a tone Blue describes as smooth and robust, emphasizing the low- and high-frequency ranges.
A Power Stream tube mic power supply is also included, which sports a variable capsule sensitivity dial to further influence the sound. Increase the sensitivity and you can drive a harder, more edgy sound. Conversely, decreasing the sensitivity can help round out a thin-sounding sound before it hits your recording medium. An ATA flight case, fashioned for Blue by SKB, is also provided with the microphone.
